In the coming weeks photo maintenance is going to be a top priority of ours. Part of this means cleanup of current photos and new policies for personal files.
Personal files will not be going anywhere yet, but to help keep our wiki cleaner and prevent them from becoming a problem we're going to be adding some new maintenance-related policies for them.
These will consist of four simple things(most of which are already in place and have just not been clearly announced).
- Naming - Personal files will have new naming policies to help separate them from wiki files.
- Usage - All unused files(personal or not) will no longer stay on the wiki for long periods of time.
- Maintenance - We will now be more strict about expecting you to handle the maintenance of your personal files. This means posting on the staff noticeboard when you need a photo renamed, an unused photo deleted, or anything else that may relate.
- Be Reasonable - This is self explanatory, we'll expect you be reasonable with the amounts of personal files you have. This doesn't really seem to be much of a problem on the wiki right now however so this change will likely have no effect for a while.
If you don't want to follow these maintenance policies for personal files, you're of course welcome to upload your personal files offsite. (Yes, even when hosting offsite you still need to follow our regular policies.)
Now to the point of why I'm making this blog post.
When the naming change goes into effect next to all of the personal files will be breaking policies and therefore due for deletion. So in order to prevent any problems that may come from that, I'm going to be personally hand renaming all the files that you request to be. Any files you don't request to be renamed will most likely end up deleted for one reason or another.
So please post links to anything you'd like to keep in the comments and I'll be sure they're taken care of.
Also if you have any personal files you'd like deleted, now would be a good time to tell me.
Please post links to files you need renamed before the 19th of this month in order to avoid deletion.

P.S. - In case anyone wasn't aware, personal files consist of anything that you upload which isn't used in a wiki article.
Clarification - There is no need to request deletion for unused personal files, these are already due for deletion and will eventually be deleted.
