MovieStarPlanet is mostly a safe place, but no different than everywhere else, some people don't want to play nice.
You may come across moviestars that we call "scammers" (some also refer to them as "hackers"), these moviestars use a variety of sneaky techniques to either steal your items and/or starcoins/get your account information and steal your account/get it banned.

Should you feel someone is trying to scam you, ignore their chat messages or tell them goodbye. If they continue, block them and all future accounts they try to contact you with.
You should not report them unless they have clearly done something that is againsts MSPs rules, your assumptions are not always enough.

Scamming Tactics

The following lists will explain some of the tactics used by scammers. Please be careful and do your best to avoid them at all costs.

List of Account Stealing Tactics

Sometimes, scammers will go as far as to try and take your account. They do this by pretending to be a MSP staff member, and asking you to set or change the e-mail linked to your account to something else. They might also try to get you to change your password to one they give you. Do not believe someone when they claim to be a staff member! Real Moviestarplanet staff will have a "MODERATOR" badge on their profile when you click on them. If someone tries to tell you to change your password or email, block and report them.

List of Items/Starcoin Stealing Tactics

Scams for stealing starcoins and items are much more common than account stealers. Typically, the item scammers will offer to trade wishlist gifts or to watch your movies if you give them a wishlist gift. However, they will always want you to be the one who gives them the gift first. Do not do this unless you personally know who you are talking to! It is most likely that whoever is trying to bargain with you is going to end up scamming you, blocking you after you give them your side of the deal but before they can fulfill theirs.

Scam Sites

The scam sites for MovieStarPlanet are those that "promise" to give the users free starcoins, diamonds, and vip. Generators scam sites ask users to download a software onto their computers for it to work.

Do not do this.

These downloads either carry viruses used to steal any personal data (passwords, emails, bank info., etc.) or damage the computer's software. Most of the time, if you have a virus protection software activated, it will block the download.

There are also websites the just plain ask you for your username and password. To be extra sneaky, they will tell you to change your email to their "company" email. Like MSP tells you, never ever give someone your password unless it's a parent.

Also, 99.99% of the time, websites like these are run by other users.

So remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Hackers/Hacking Groups

Many users mistake "hacking" with "scamming" which has caused many users to feel unsafe and like their account could be easily taken at anytime. Certain users have taken advantage of these fears and have created fake people and groups to scare the community. Some of these users even go as far as to scam them from another account while taunting them with the "hacker" account. In addition to this many users have pretended to be hacked by these people or groups in order to gain attention or sympathy.
